Hiking// Naxos Unveiling: From Waterfall Trails to Village Feast
We’ll embark on a scenic drive of about 30 minutes, traversing half of the island and immersing ourselves in some of the most breathtaking views Naxos has to offer. As we journey through the heart of the countryside, the landscape unfolds with stunning vistas—rolling hills, terraced fields, and the vibrant greens of olive groves. The road winds gently upwards, leading us toward the majestic mountains that rise above the island, revealing ever-expanding panoramas. As we ascend, the horizon stretches wide, offering an awe-inspiring sight where both the east and west coasts of Naxos come into view, a rare and striking perspective of the island’s natural beauty.
At this vantage point, nestled within a gorge, the hidden village comes into sight—a serene oasis tucked away amidst the verdant and lush vegetation. It’s a place that seems almost forgotten by time, with greenery spilling from the mountainsides and the sound of nature filling the air. This is where our adventure truly begins. We set off on a tranquil hike, an easy trail that weaves through towering mountains and passes by massive boulders that have stood watch for centuries. The path is peaceful, a perfect prelude to the treasure that awaits at the end.
After a 45’ hike, we arrive at a stunning waterfall—20 meters (about 65 feet) of cascading water tumbling into a crystal-clear small pond below. It’s like stumbling upon a hidden paradise, a small oasis surrounded by nature’s grandeur. The sound of the water, the freshness of the air, and the tranquil setting create a magical atmosphere, inviting us to pause and take in the moment. This is the kind of place that stays with you long after you’ve left, a perfect blend of adventure and tranquility.
After the hike, we’ll have the option to head to a charming village nearby, where a delicious traditional full-course lunch awaits. Set in a picturesque square surrounded by whitewashed houses and blooming bougainvillea, we’ll enjoy a feast of local Naxian dishes—freshly baked bread, savory cheeses, and slow-cooked meats prepared with love. It’s the perfect way to wrap up the day, savoring the flavors of the island in the company of its stunning landscapes.
